Broom Bashed!

Chief Chris Roberts (in photo with event organizer Morgan Ostler) and Band members Dawn and Josh Duncan were among the volunteers who participated in the annual Broom Bash May 27. The dedicated crew, which included people from the Rotary Club and the BroomBusters group, worked to remove broom along Highway 19A from Walmart to the Dogwood intersection.

Broom is a highly invasive species that threatens biodiversity. In spring, broom requires a lot of energy to bloom. This is best time to cut it because it is less likely to re-sprout. Band members are encouraged to cut down broom on their properties and dispose of cuttings at the yard waste drop-off centre off Willis Road.
