Job Posting – Urban Indigenous Housing Coordinator

The Urban Indigenous Housing Committee is accepting resumes for the services of a Coordinator. This position is best suited for someone who is Indigenous or has a very good understanding of Indigenous communities and cultural safety. The position would suit some who requires part-time work and can work on a flexible schedule. The goal of the Committee is to improve access to safe and affordable housing for Indigenous individuals and communities, foster connection, and improve the health and well being of Indigenous Peoples living in the Campbell River area.

Position Title: Coordinator, Urban Indigenous Housing

Reports to: Steering Urban Indigenous Housing Committee

Position Purpose: The Coordinator facilitates the activities of the Committee

Services Provided: The Coordinator performs a wide range of services assigned by the
Steering Committee including some or all of the following:

• Maintain email list and ensures the preparation and distribution of agendas, minutes of
meetings and other related documents in”a timely fashion
Coordinate and participate in regular meetings, special events/resource fairs, forums for the
Steering Committee
• Manage and facilitate engagement and outreach with the local First Nations bands and Métis
association, and other Indigenous organisations and communities
• Manage and facilitate partnerships with funders and partners
• Make grant applications and support the sustainability of the project
• Track funding sources and make applications where directed
• Attend meetings, identify, collect and summarize data from existing sources, tracking
information for evaluation of strategies
• Produce information for media including summarizing data and writing media releases
• Support the work of the Committee as directed by providing other services as required

Knowledge, skills and abilities

• Ability to undertake all tasks in a culturally safe manner
• Awareness and knowledge of first Nations, Métis, and Inuit communities living in Campbell
River and their diverse housing needs
• Knowledge of community development
• Knowledge of existing local community agencies and resources preferred
• Knowledge and understanding of urban Indigenous housing in Campbell River
• Experience working in grassroots collaboration with diverse perspectives and communities
• Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task
• High degree of resourcefulness, flexibility, and adaptability
• Word processing, desktop publishing, e-mail and internet
• Valid drivers licence and own vehicle

Competencies 

The Coordinator should demonstrate competence in some or all of the following:

problems, and make decisions that enhance the Steering Committee”

Qualifications

• 2 to 3 years community development or community coordination experience
• Combination of experience and education, or University Degree in a related field or
equivalent
• Preference will”be given to applicants with Indigenous ancestry

Position Context:

This is a contract position for an initial period of 6 months, with the potential of an extension if funding becomes available. The initial probationary period will be for 3 months from the start of the contract, If the services provided are satisfactory the contract will be extended, subject to funding.

The contract is for approximately 15 hours per week and $25/hour. The hours per week are flexible to a maximum of 330 hours over the initial 6 month contract period (the number of hours per week can be adjusted according to the needs of the Committee as long as the total over 6 months is 330 hours).

The Coordinator will provide own workspace, IT equipment telephone and software.

The Coordinator will submit invoices monthly with an accounting of hours and work accomplished to the steering committee for approval. Upon approval by the steering committee payment will be provided. the maximum payment of the initial 6 month contract will be $9000
