The Wei Wai Kum First Nation recognizes the value of supporting the social and self-development of the Nation’s young people. Through a recreation coordinator, the Nation offers activities that are designed to provide a fun, safe, and challenging space for youth-adult to learn and work together. These indoor and outdoor activities are varied and include swimming, bowling, recreation, and arts and crafts, among others.
Programming is sometimes integrated with that offered by the Elders Worker and cultural groups in order to promote traditional teachings about the Laichwiltach culture and Lik’wala language. Youth programming also includes day camp programs offered during the spring and summer school breaks. Participants in youth activities develop self-confidence, leadership, teamwork and interpersonal skills.
