Two BladeRunner Programs to Start in January

The Laichwiltach Family Life Society will offer two BladeRunner job readiness programs starting in January. One will prepare participants to work as a prep cook. The other will provide training for seven workplace certifications useful for those who want to work in the service sector.

The Prep Cook Training program will run for two weeks from Jan. 8 – 19. The standard BladeRunner program will run for four weeks from Jan. 8 – Feb. 2. It will provide participants with certificates for Food Safe, WHMIS (Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System), Barista, Serving it Right, Cashier, Customer Service, and First Aid Level One.

The application deadline for both programs is Dec. 22 and interviews for both will take place Jan. 4. To be eligible, participants must be a First Nations youth age 18 to 30, unemployed but not eligible for or receiving Employment Insurance benefits, not attending high school, and have limited or no work experience.

The programs give First Nations youth the skills to seek and obtain employment and the necessary life skills to compete in the work force. Participants receive ongoing support and follow-up for 18 months.
