Kwanwatsi Child Care Centre

Kwanwatsi Child Care Centre The Wei Wai Kum First Nation runs the Kwanwatsi Child Care Centre with funding support from B.C.’s First Nations Education Steering Committee and Indigenous and Northern Affairs Canada. The centre recognizes that children are our most valuable resource and staff members strive to ensure their work with families is grounded in literacy, health, nutrition, education, and traditional language and culture.

Kwanwatsi Child Care Centre operates two licensed Early Learning programs.

The Infant/Toddler program cares for up to 12 children from infancy up to age three while the Preschool program cares for up to 25 children ages three to five. First priority for day care spaces is given to members of the Wei Wai Kum First Nation. The centre is open Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. It is closed on all B.C. statutory holidays and for two weeks over the Christmas holidays.

The goal of the Kwanwatsi program is to provide children with positive, developmentally-appropriate growth opportunities by providing activities and materials that are cognitively stimulating, culturally reflective, creatively rewarding, socially satisfying, physically challenging and – most importantly – fun!
